Aaron Sorkin Endorses Kamala Harris for President

Aaron Sorkin, the creator of the hit '90s NBC drama "West Wing," has reversed his previous suggestion that the Democratic Party nominate Republican Sen. Mitt Romney to run against former President Trump. In an email to his friend and "West Wing" star Joshua Malina, Sorkin stated, "'I take it all back. Harris for America!"

Renowned screenwriter and producer Aaron Sorkin, the mastermind behind the iconic NBC drama "West Wing," has retracted his earlier suggestion that the Democratic Party nominate Republican Sen. Mitt Romney for president. In a striking turn of events, Sorkin has now thrown his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, endorsing her candidacy for the presidency.

This reversal came to light on Monday, following President Biden's announcement that he would be endorsing Harris. Sorkin, who does not have social media accounts, conveyed his change of heart to Malina via email.

"I need to borrow your Twitter account again," Sorkin wrote to Malina. "'I take it all back. Harris for America!"

Harris remains the unchallenged candidate for the Democratic nomination, with the party's convention scheduled for August 19 in Chicago.

In an op-ed published in the New York Times, Sorkin had initially argued that Romney, as the Democratic presidential nominee, would serve as "a clear and powerful demonstration" of the party's commitment to "stopping a deranged man from taking power." He had also suggested that "Democrats nominating a Republican" could foster unity and healing in the wake of the assassination attempt against Trump.

Notably, in 2012, Sorkin had urged President Obama to repeatedly challenge Romney's honesty during debates.

In his op-ed, Sorkin had acknowledged that there were no Democratic candidates polling significantly higher than Biden. However, he had maintained that Romney's nomination would be a symbolic gesture of the party's determination to safeguard democracy.

Fox News reached out to Sorkin for further comment, but a response was not immediately received. Hanna Panreck of Fox News contributed to this report.

This unexpected endorsement by Sorkin highlights the fluidity and evolving nature of political allegiances in the current climate. It remains to be seen whether Harris's candidacy will resonate with voters and propel her to the presidency.
