Adaleia Cross: Fighting for Fairness in Women's Sports and Beyond

A high school sophomore shares her story of battling the Biden-Harris administration and male athletes in competition, highlighting the importance of protecting women's rights and spaces.

Some might wonder why a high school sophomore — busy with classes, band, and sports — sought the attention of the U.S. Supreme Court. The answer lies in the pivotal ruling that recently granted me the opportunity to continue fighting for women's rights and protections.

The controversy stems from the Biden-Harris administration's attempt to enforce Title IX rule changes that would allow males who identify as female to compete in women's sports and utilize women's-only spaces. Title IX is the federal law ensuring equal opportunities for female students in education and athletics. However, the administration's proposed redefinition of the law threatens these protections.

As a young athlete, I have witnessed firsthand the unfair advantage that male physiology provides in competitive sports. Over the past two years, a male student who identifies as a girl has displaced nearly 300 female athletes, taking their places and shattering records. This has not only dampened the joy of competition but also raised concerns about physical safety.

Beyond sports, the issue extends to other sensitive spaces that should be safe for women. School locker rooms, restrooms, and even overnight trips have become potential sources of discomfort and harassment. The presence of males in these spaces undermines the privacy and security that girls deserve.

The Supreme Court's decision to deny the Biden-Harris administration's request to enforce the Title IX rule changes provides a glimmer of hope in the midst of this contentious debate. It allows my case to proceed unhindered at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.

I am grateful for the support I have received from women's advocacy groups, scholars, 20 states, and countless individuals who recognize the importance of protecting women's rights. Their briefs and testimonies in my support at the 6th Circuit are a testament to the widespread concern over the administration's overreach.

The upcoming battle in court will be crucial in determining the future of women's sports and the protection of female spaces. I believe that the 6th Circuit will uphold the principles of fairness and safety that have long been enshrined in our laws.

As a teenager navigating the challenges of high school, it may seem like an unlikely undertaking to challenge the federal government. However, the stakes are too high to remain silent. The rights and well-being of future generations of girls depend on the outcome of this case.
