Biden "Absolutely Not" Considering Stepping Down Despite Pressure

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denies rumors that President Biden is considering dropping out of the 2024 presidential race, despite criticism following his recent debate performance.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has firmly denied rumors that President Joe Biden is considering stepping down from the 2024 presidential race, citing his strong track record and commitment to delivering for the American people.

Jean-Pierre's comments came in response to a New York Times report suggesting that Biden had privately discussed the possibility of withdrawing from the race. However, she vehemently dismissed the report, stating: "Absolutely not. And you heard, I think, I believe directly from the campaign as well."

Jean-Pierre attributed Biden's poor debate performance to a combination of a cold and jet lag following his trip to Europe for the G-7 summit. She emphasized that despite the subpar performance, Biden's record of accomplishments and ability to connect with voters should not be overlooked.

"It was not his best night. He understands that it is fair for people to ask that question, but we cannot forget his record and what he’s been able to do. We cannot forget how he has been able to deliver for the American people for almost four years," she said.

Jean-Pierre highlighted Biden's achievements in economic growth, job creation, and healthcare expansion as reasons for his continued support among voters. She added that Biden is "staying in the race" and is determined to build on his accomplishments.

Biden himself has also publicly stated that he is running for re-election and that no one is pushing him out. He and Vice President Kamala Harris have made efforts to quell concerns among Democrats by appearing on a DNC call and reassuring allies.

White House chief of staff Jeff Zients has also urged staff to focus on governing rather than external noise. He acknowledged the difficult few days but encouraged staffers to stay focused and work as a team.

Jean-Pierre confirmed Zients' efforts and noted that Biden has also reached out to top Democratic lawmakers to discuss the situation. She expressed confidence in Vice President Harris as the "future of the party."

According to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll, 54% of voters believe Biden should drop out. However, Jean-Pierre emphasized that the poll only represents a snapshot in time and that Biden remains committed to delivering results for the American people.

Biden is scheduled to host a meeting with Democrat governors on Wednesday night, further demonstrating his determination to continue his agenda.
