Biden addressed his sudden departure, acknowledging the surprise and disappointment among his supporters. However, he emphasized that it was the right decision.

"I know it's hard because you have poured your heart and soul into me to help us win this thing, help me get this nomination, help me win the nomination, and then go on to win the presidency," Biden said. "But I firmly believe it was the right thing to do."

Harris, in her opening remarks, expressed her gratitude and admiration for Biden.

"We're all filled with so many mixed emotions about this," Harris said. "I just have to say, I love Joe Biden, I love Joe Biden, and I know we all do when we have so many darn good reasons for loving Joe Biden."

Biden's decision to withdraw from the race came after mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party over concerns about his ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in the general election.

On Monday, Biden expressed his gratitude to Harris and wished her luck in her campaign.

"I'm watching kid," he said. "I'm watching you kid. I love you."

Democratic Party delegates are expected to hold a virtual roll call soon, with Harris favored to become the nominee.

Biden's withdrawal marks a significant shift in the Democratic primary race, as Harris is now the frontrunner in the race against other potential candidates like Senator Bernie Sanders, Governor Gavin Newsom, and former Governor Deval Patrick.

The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to take place from August 17 to 20 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the party's nominee will be officially selected.
