In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, one of the most devastating storms in American history, the Biden administration has come under intense scrutiny for its inadequate response. Fox News host Laura Ingraham has been particularly critical, accusing President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of failing to provide timely and effective leadership.
"Millions of Americans are suffering and more than 130 are dead," Ingraham said on her show, "The Ingraham Angle." "And tragically, for those affected, we neither had a president nor a vice president in place and equipped to direct the federal preparation, nor to demand a swift response by the federal government."
Biden, Harris Fail to Lead Amidst Hurricane Helene Devastation
Ingraham pointed out that Biden spent the weekend at his vacation home in Rehoboth Beach, while Harris attended political events in California and Las Vegas. "Americans can't get out," she said, "but Kamala Harris had no trouble getting into California and to Las Vegas to campaign over the weekend."
The criticism leveled at Biden and Harris has been amplified by social media users, who have called out the administration for its "dereliction of duty" and "low-key public response" to the disaster.
"Asleep at the wheel," Ingraham quoted one Twitter user as saying. "Absentee leaders."
Biden has since announced that he will travel to the affected regions on Wednesday, while Harris' team has stated that she will visit at a time "when it was not disruptive to ongoing operations."
Ingraham, however, argues that this is not enough. "We need a real president, not someone who is more interested in campaigning than in leading the nation through crisis," she said.
The administration's response to Hurricane Helene has highlighted the importance of strong and decisive leadership in times of emergency. Biden and Harris have failed to provide that leadership, and the American people are paying the price.
