"It's a step in the right direction," said Fatima Abu Rahma, a resident of Gaza City. "The U.S. has a moral obligation to welcome those seeking refuge."

However, others expressed skepticism. "I doubt it will make much difference," said Ahmed al-Khalidi, a student. "The U.S. has a long history of broken promises."

Regarding the campus protests, some Gazans voiced their support. "It's inspiring to see young people standing up for what they believe in," said Amal al-Sufi, a teacher.

Others urged caution. "Protests are important, but they need to be peaceful and constructive," said Mohammed al-Gharbi, a businessman.

Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, Israel's political landscape is experiencing significant upheaval. Benny Gantz, a top political rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has issued an ultimatum, threatening to resign from the war cabinet if a plan for ending the war is not presented by June 8th.

Gantz proposed a plan that would involve Israel assuming security control of a demilitarized Gaza Strip, while an interim Palestinian and international government would handle civil affairs.

"If you choose to follow the path of zealots and lead the entire nation toward an abyss, we will be forced to leave the government," Gantz warned Netanyahu.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has also criticized Netanyahu's lack of a clear postwar strategy, arguing that Israel faces the choice of either implementing a prolonged military occupation of Gaza or allowing Hamas to regain control.

The Biden administration has joined the chorus of criticism directed at Israel's approach in Gaza. National security adviser Jake Sullivan urged Netanyahu to develop a plan for the aftermath of the conflict.

President Biden himself has threatened to withhold military aid if Netanyahu proceeds with an invasion of Rafah, the last Hamas stronghold.

"There is no alternative to military victory," Netanyahu has asserted, dismissing the criticism.

However, the escalating conflict and mounting pressure from within his own government have left Netanyahu facing significant challenges in shaping Israel's Gaza strategy.
