Biden's Position for Second Term Deemed Unsuitable Amidst Growing Calls for Withdrawal

Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume expresses concerns about President Biden's mental acuity, stating that he is now widely perceived as being unfit to serve a second term.

Fox News Chief political analyst Brit Hume has weighed in on the growing chorus of voices calling for President Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. Hume's comments come amidst ongoing questions about Biden's mental fitness, amplified by his recent debate performance.

According to Hume, Biden is now widely regarded as being incapable of serving a second term, or even completing his current one. "He's now thought of in the eyes of people as being a man who is really not in any position to serve a second term, if he's even in a position to serve out this one," Hume told guest anchor Gillian Turner on "Special Report."

Nine House Democrats have publicly urged Biden to withdraw from the race since his widely criticized debate performance late last month. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) became the first Democratic senator to echo this sentiment, calling on Biden to step aside "for the good of the country."

Biden's upcoming press conference at the 75th Anniversary NATO summit has been seen as an opportunity to address concerns about his mental sharpness. However, Hume believes that it may be too late to alter the public's perception.

"I think the impression left by the debate, coupled with lots of other things that happened before the debate, which the public seemed aware of, that much of the media did not, that those impressions are pretty nearly indelible," Hume said. "And I think we can all hope that the president will have a good round at his news conference tomorrow."

Hume further emphasized the importance of the NATO event, which Biden appears to have handled effectively. However, he expressed doubts that this improvement would be sufficient to quell the mounting pressure.

"There's no doubt [this] NATO event is an important one. He seems to have handled it effectively. But I think all of that may be too late."

The concerns raised by Hume and other commentators reflect the growing unease within the Democratic Party about Biden's ability to lead the country. With the 2024 election rapidly approaching, the pressure on Biden to either address these concerns or consider withdrawing from the race will only intensify.
