Biden's Refusal to Drop Out Stems from 'Delusion,' Says CNN Commentator

CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp claims President Biden's resistance to calls for him to withdraw from the presidential race is driven by a state of "delusion," citing the leaked conversations between Democratic lawmakers and the president.

CNN political commentator S.E. Cupp has expressed her belief that President Biden's refusal to drop out of the presidential race stems from a state of "delusion." Cupp's assessment is based on the recent leaks of private conversations between Biden and Democratic lawmakers, which reveal a growing sense of desperation among party members who believe the president is not capable of winning the race.

Cupp argued that the leaks indicate that Democrats have been unable to convince Biden to acknowledge the realities of his campaign's struggles. She cited Biden's public statements suggesting that he does not believe the polls, which consistently show him trailing former President Trump.

"The fact that everyone is now talking openly about these private efforts is speaking to that delusion and feeling like we can't get through to him," Cupp said. "He's not acknowledging this Trump trifecta of momentum."

Cupp further criticized Biden's handling of concerns raised by Democratic lawmakers, suggesting that he has become defensive and dismissive. Senator Chuck Schumer, the top Democrat in the Senate, is reported to have had a "blunt one-on-one conversation" with Biden, urging him to withdraw from the race.

Representative Adam Schiff, a close ally of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, publicly called on Biden to drop out this week. Schiff argued that Biden's declining poll numbers and his inability to connect with voters made him an unsuitable candidate to challenge Trump.

Cupp contrasted the Democratic Party's turmoil with the perceived discipline and unity of the Republican Party. She praised Republicans for staying on message and maintaining support for Trump, despite the president's own challenges and controversies.

"The RNC and Republicans and Trump look disciplined and Biden's campaign looks like a vanity project at this point," Cupp said. "It looks unserious. Trump looks serious."

Some Democrats have suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris would be the best choice to replace Biden as the party's nominee. CNN's Kate Bedingfield, who previously served as White House communications director under Biden, supported Harris as a potential nominee.

"If they are going to make a switch, to me Kamala Harris is the person it would need to be, that it should be," Bedingfield said. "She's been a governing partner to Joe Biden, she has wide support across the Democratic Party."

Despite the growing calls for him to step aside, Biden has maintained that he will continue his campaign. In a press conference, Biden's campaign manager dismissed the possibility of replacing the president on the ballot.

"Our campaign is moving forward, drawing a vision and a contrast between that of Project of 2025 and what we've seen for the past three days here in Milwaukee -- the extreme agenda of Republicans -- and that's where our focus is," said Principal Deputy Campaign Manager Quentin Fulks.

A recent AP-NORC survey found that 7 in 10 adults, including 65% of Democrats, believe Biden should withdraw from the race. However, Trump also faces pressure within his party, with 57% of adults and only 73% of Republicans supporting his continued candidacy.
