Billy Graham Defense Fund Launched to Protect Religious Liberty in UK

Christian evangelist Franklin Graham has announced the creation of the Billy Graham Defense Fund to promote religious freedom in the United Kingdom. The fund, funded in part by legal winnings from a previous case, aims to assist Christians facing threats to their faith.

Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, unveiled the Billy Graham Defense Fund on June 22nd during his "God Loves You" tour in Glasgow, Scotland. Speaking to a crowd of over 7,500 people, Graham stated that the fund would safeguard religious liberty in the UK.

The fund's establishment stems from Graham's 2020 tour cancellation due to alleged religious discrimination. The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association subsequently filed a lawsuit against the tour venues, resulting in favorable outcomes and legal settlements.

The association received approximately $650,000 from these legal cases, which will be used to fund the defense fund. It aims to provide support to Christians facing threats or intimidation for expressing their faith.

In 2018, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association also filed suit after Franklin Graham's advertisements were removed from buses in Blackpool, England. A judge ruled in favor of the association, and Blackpool apologized in 2021.
