Lorenzo Sewell, pastor of 180 Church in Detroit, offered insights into the growing support for former President Trump among Black voters during an interview with Fox News Digital. Despite claims from some Democrats, including Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson, that the shift is not significant, Sewell insists that "the increase is happening." He emphasized that the surge in Black voter support for Trump is evident in his own church community, where he witnessed a diverse audience attending Trump's recent visit.

A recent USA Today/Suffolk University poll supports Sewell's observations, indicating a 20 percentage point decline in Biden's support among Black voters in swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania. Fox News polling also indicates a reduction in Biden's lead with Black voters, from 64 points in July 2020 to 42 points today.

Sewell believes Trump's appeal stems from his unique qualities as a non-traditional politician. "He's not a typical politician," Sewell said. "He's willing to come to communities that most Republicans would not come to."

Trump's background as a New Yorker, according to Sewell, has equipped him with cultural awareness and intelligence, enabling him to connect with diverse communities like Detroit. "He's willing to jump in and get his hands dirty, and he's willing to have a plan," Sewell added.

Sewell highlighted Trump's Platinum Plan, designed to provide resources for Black entrepreneurs and churches, as an example of his commitment to addressing the needs of Black communities. "That's why I believe he resonates," Sewell explained.

Drawing from his own upbringing, Sewell emphasized his understanding of the hardships faced by forgotten, disenfranchised, and marginalized communities in Michigan. He expressed hope that Black voters will tune into the RNC and explore information about the Republican Party.

Sewell encouraged Black voters to research the history of Black Republicans and their contributions to society. "I would just Google the Republican Party," Sewell said. "Look at 170 years ago how patriots stood up to stop slavery. I would just Google Black Republicans and see that Black people have always been Republicans."

Sewell emphasized the importance of Black Americans recognizing their longstanding affiliation with the Republican Party and challenging the narrative that they exclusively vote Democrat. "It's the Democrats that have these identity politics and try to confuse Black America into thinking that Black people don't vote Republican," Sewell said. "We always have, and Donald Trump, he's bringing the Black vote back again."
