Border Crisis Fuels Surge in Gun Sales, with Women Leading the Charge

A Texas gun shop owner reports a significant increase in firearm purchases driven by concerns over the ongoing border crisis in Del Rio, Texas.

Gary Humphreys, the owner of Humphreys' Gun Shop in Del Rio, Texas, has witnessed a marked uptick in gun sales since the border crisis intensified under the Biden-Harris administration. According to Humphreys, a growing number of first-time gun owners, predominantly women, are seeking firearms for self-protection amidst heightened fears.

Humphreys attributes the surge in gun purchases to the deteriorating security situation on the border. He highlights a recent incident where his shop's front door was broken, underscoring the heightened risk perceived by residents.

"People that don't live on the border don't realize what is really happening," Humphreys emphasized. He believes that the current crisis has exacerbated since President Biden and Vice President Harris took office three years ago, citing overwhelming support among border residents for former President Trump's border policies.

Notably, Humphreys reports a surge in handgun purchases by women, who express concerns about personal safety amid the border crisis.

"Getting a lot of women that never owned a gun before coming in and buying them," Humphreys said. He attributes this trend to increased fears of violence and uncertainty.

"It's pretty scary out there," Humphreys said. "More people are coming to us to purchase handguns for self-protection."

The Fox News survey conducted last month reveals growing concerns about the border, particularly among younger voters, Black voters, Democrats, Hispanic voters, and women. The survey indicates that 71% of respondents blame the Biden administration's lack of border enforcement for the current situation.

In contrast, former President Trump enjoys a 19-point lead over Harris on who is trusted most to handle border security.

The Fox News survey also gauged public opinion on immigration policies. A majority (63%) favor deporting illegal immigrants back to their home countries, while 67% support using unspent funds on the border wall.

However, according to Harris' advisors, the bipartisan Senate border bill that Harris has pledged to support does not provide additional funding for the border wall.

The border crisis has had a profound impact on the Del Rio community, leading to a surge in gun ownership, particularly among women seeking self-protection. This trend underscores the heightened fears and concerns prevalent in border areas, where residents feel that the government has failed to adequately address the escalating security situation.
