Carville Weighs In on Trump's Potential No-Show at Upcoming Debate

Democratic strategist James Carville believes former President Donald Trump may skip next week's presidential debate, stating that he would "take even money" on Trump's absence.

Democratic strategist James Carville has expressed skepticism about former President Donald Trump's participation in next week's presidential debate, suggesting that he may be a "no-show."

"If I was a gambler — and I am a gambler — I'd take even money that Trump doesn't show up," Carville said in a recent interview with MSNBC's Ari Melber.

Carville pointed to Trump's past behavior, noting that the former president had previously canceled his own debate appearances and even backed out of his impeachment trial defense.

"He'll just get up that morning and say 'I'm just not going to do it,'" Carville predicted.

Trump is scheduled to face off against President Joe Biden in the first presidential debate on June 27. The debate will be moderated by CNN anchors Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, whom Trump has criticized in the past.

Last week, Trump acknowledged the possibility of skipping the debate, suggesting that he "might not show up" due to concerns about CNN's fairness.

"I think it's important for there to be a debate...but let's see what happens," Trump said in an interview with podcaster Logan Paul.

CNN has since released the rules and format for the debate, which will feature the candidates standing at podiums without props or notes. The 90-minute debate will include two commercial breaks, during which the candidates will not be allowed to consult with their teams. Microphones will also be muted when the other candidate is speaking.

Some observers believe that Trump may use the debate rules as an excuse to avoid participating. Carville, however, suggested that Trump may simply decide to skip the debate based on personal factors.

"He's gonna wake up and decide," Carville said.

Trump and Biden are also scheduled to debate in September on ABC, moderated by anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis.

The upcoming debates are seen as crucial opportunities for the candidates to present their visions for the country and engage with the voters. Whether Trump ultimately participates in the debates remains to be seen.
