CeeDee Lamb's Contract Saga Dominates Cowboys' Offseason

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb remains without a new contract, leaving the team's future uncertain as he continues to hold out.

CeeDee Lamb, a three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, is in the midst of a contract dispute that has dominated the team's offseason. Lamb, who finished the 2023 season with career highs in receptions, touchdowns, and receiving yards, is seeking a new long-term deal from the Cowboys. However, the two sides have yet to reach an agreement.

Longtime Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones recently expressed optimism about an imminent deal. "The facts are that I believe we'll come together. I don't want to speak for him, but we wouldn't have offered him what we've offered him if we didn't want him to be here," Jones said.

Despite Jones's confidence, Lamb does not share the same level of enthusiasm. In a workout video posted on social media, Lamb stated, "Still waiting on that phone call," but added, "until then, we grind."

Lamb held out of the Cowboys' offseason program and mandatory organized team activities. He also did not report to training camp when it opened last month. The 25-year-old is scheduled to play the 2024 season under his fifth-year option, which would pay him an estimated $17.9 million.

According to NFL Media, the Cowboys extended an offer to Lamb worth an estimated $33 million per year. That figure would make him the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, after Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson.

Lamb's contract situation is not the only pressing issue facing the Cowboys. Quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final year of his contract, while standout linebacker Micah Parsons became eligible for an extension this offseason. The future of head coach Mike McCarthy, whose contract expires next year, is also uncertain.

Despite these challenges, Lamb remains focused on his performance on the field. He has been named to the Pro Bowl in each of the past three seasons, and his 135 receptions led the NFL last year. He finished the 2023 campaign with 1,749 receiving yards, second-most in the league.

The Cowboys will open the season in Cleveland on September 8 when they take on the Browns. Lamb's contract status and the team's overall future hang in the balance as the season approaches.
