Chicago Alderman Sounds the Alarm on Migrant Surge Ahead of DNC

Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano warns that the city is "tapped out" of resources to handle the influx of migrants, with an estimated 25,000 more expected before the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano expressed concern over the city's ability to handle the ongoing migrant crisis, as it braces for the arrival of approximately 25,000 more migrants ahead of the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

Napolitano, a member of the City Council's Committee on Workforce Development and Immigration, joined "Fox & Friends First" to discuss the challenges facing Chicago in managing the influx of migrants. He stated that the city has "tapped out" of resources to provide adequate support for the migrants, who are primarily from Central and South America.

"We're tapped out," Napolitano said. "We can't handle any more. We need help from the federal government. We need help from the state government. We're at a breaking point."

Napolitano expressed concerns about the city's ability to provide housing, healthcare, and other essential services for the migrants, while simultaneously preparing for the DNC, which is expected to attract over 50,000 visitors.

He noted that the city has seen an increase in crime rates, including a rise in shootings and robberies, and that the additional influx of migrants could exacerbate the situation.

"With the DNC coming, we have 25,000 migrants coming in," Napolitano said. "We're going to have over 50,000 people in the downtown area. We're going to have protests. We're going to have a lot of challenges."

Napolitano called on the federal government and the state of Illinois to provide additional resources and support to Chicago to help it manage the migrant crisis. He also urged the DNC to reconsider the timing of its convention in Chicago, given the city's current challenges.

"I think the DNC needs to think about rescheduling," Napolitano said. "I think they need to think about moving to another city that can handle the influx of people."

The DNC is scheduled to be held in Chicago from August 19-22, 2024. The convention will bring together delegates from across the United States to nominate the Democratic presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2024 election.

Chicago has become a major destination for migrants in recent years, due to its proximity to the U.S.-Mexico border and its status as a sanctuary city. The city has a long history of welcoming and providing support to immigrants, but the recent surge in arrivals has strained its resources.

The Biden administration has faced criticism for its handling of the migrant crisis, with some accusing it of not doing enough to secure the border and prevent illegal crossings. The administration has defended its policies, arguing that it is committed to addressing the root causes of migration and providing humanitarian assistance to migrants.
