Chicago Braces for Migrant Surge Ahead of DNC, Alderman Sounds Alarm

Chicago Alderman Anthony Napolitano warns that the city is "tapped out" of resources and cannot handle any more illegal immigrants as it prepares for the arrival of 25,000 migrants ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

Chicago is bracing for an influx of 25,000 migrants ahead of the Democratic National Convention next month, and one local alderman is warning that the city is already "tapped out" of resources.

"We can't handle any more illegal immigrants sent to Chicago right now," Alderman Anthony Napolitano told "Fox & Friends First" on Friday.

The city has been dealing with a surge in migrant arrivals in recent months, and Napolitano says the city is simply not equipped to handle any more.

"We are so tapped out here… it's going to hurt us so badly here," he said. "And in the end, Chicagoans are going to have to clean up the mess."

City officials have said they are prepared for the potential surge and have identified several locations for just-in-time shelters to accommodate the influx of migrants.

But Napolitano is skeptical, saying the city is already struggling to provide basic services to its current population.

"We've had over 30,000 people shot in our city in the last nine years," he said. "Now, you bring a convention that is already going to be touted as a possible protest and riot circus."

He also criticized Democratic leadership and their presumptive presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, for advocating for policies that he says are putting cities in danger.

"You're going to bring A, a candidate here that wants to defund the police and B, supports these open borders," he said. "Those are two of the major issues that are affecting our city."

The Democratic National Convention will kick off on Aug. 19 at the United Center and will run through Aug. 22.

The city is expected to host thousands of Democratic delegates, guests, and members of the media during the convention.

The convention is also expected to draw large protests, and the Chicago Police Department has said it will be fully staffed to ensure public safety.

But Napolitano is worried that the city will not be able to handle the influx of migrants and the potential protests.

"We are so tapped out here," he said. "It's going to hurt us so badly here."
