Claremore Tornado Confirmed as EF-2, Injuring 23

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has given the tornado that struck Claremore, Oklahoma an initial rating of EF-2. The tornado caused extensive damage and injured 23 people, three of whom are in critical condition.

CLAREMORE, Okla. — Severe storms injured 23 people in Claremore overnight Saturday, according to local officials. Three of those injuries are considered life-threatening.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa has given the tornado that struck Claremore an initial rating of EF-2, meaning it had winds of up to 115 miles per hour. The tornado caused extensive damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles.

Downed trees and power lines blocked roads throughout Claremore, and many homes were left without power. The city's water supply was also disrupted, and residents were urged to boil their water before drinking it.

Claremore Mayor Bill Flanagan said the city is working to provide assistance to those affected by the storm. "Our first priority is to make sure everyone is safe and has access to the resources they need," Flanagan said.

The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the Claremore Expo Center for those who have been displaced from their homes. The shelter is providing food, water, and a place to sleep.
