Colbert Roasts Biden for Disastrous Debate Performance

Stephen Colbert, a staunch Biden supporter, returned from hiatus with a scathing monologue criticizing the president's recent debate performance, calling it "the worst debate performance of all time." Colbert also mocked the Biden team's excuses for the president's poor showing.

Stephen Colbert, the liberal host of CBS's "The Late Show," wasted no time in unleashing a barrage of criticism on President Biden's recent debate performance. Colbert, who had been on hiatus for several weeks, returned to his show with a monologue dedicated to skewering Biden, expressing his frustration over the president's shaky debate performance and the subsequent attempts by his team to control the damage.

"This took a year off my life," Colbert lamented to his audience, referring to Biden's recent insistence that his debate performance was merely "a bad episode."

Colbert kicked off his eleven-minute roast by acknowledging the growing calls for Biden to step down, but stated that he was in no position to give his opinion on the matter. He then proceeded to berate Biden for his failure to handle former President Donald Trump on the debate stage.

"Going into it, all Joe had to do was allay people's fears that he was too old," Colbert said. "But instead, Biden's shakiness allowed Trump to get away with 90 minutes of lies, racism, and weird golf brags, which is why a lot of people are saying this was the worst debate performance of all time."

Colbert did not spare the Biden team from his criticism, mocking their excuses for the president's poor showing. "Now after the debate, Biden's team tried to put out the fire with a bucket of gasoline, telling reporters that the president's weak performance was because he had a cold," Colbert said, sarcastically adding, "Ugh, I hate those summer colds where your voice gets hoarse, and your brain explodes."

Colbert then grilled Biden for his defense of his debate performance in an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. "When 'Grey's Anatomy' did a musical, that was a bad episode, OK?" Colbert said, criticizing Biden's characterization of his performance as merely "a bad episode." "This took a year off my life."

Colbert's frustration boiled over again during an interview with CNN's Abby Phillip. When Phillip agreed that the debate should have happened despite the blowback to Biden, he shot back, "Why?" "You know [Trump's] going to lie, and the other guy is President of the United States who should not be dignifying this criminal who tried to overthrow democracy," Colbert said.

Colbert has become more than just a late-night lackey for the president. He recently moderated a campaign fundraiser in New York City that included Biden and former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, which reportedly raised around $26 million.

Despite Colbert's harsh criticism, the Biden campaign and the White House have remained silent on the matter.
