A Philadelphia couple engaged in a private moment inside their vehicle had a close encounter with the Schuylkill River when the car accidentally rolled into the water.

A couple's intimate encounter in the backseat of their parked car on Philadelphia's scenic Kelly Drive took an unexpected and embarrassing turn on Wednesday morning when the vehicle unexpectedly rolled into the Schuylkill River.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, officers responded to reports of an automobile partially submerged in the river near the Columbia Bridge at approximately 4:45 a.m. Upon investigation, police discovered a man and woman had been engaged in sexual activity when the woman inadvertently shifted the vehicle into gear, causing it to roll into the water.

The couple managed to escape the sinking car safely without sustaining any injuries. FOX 29 Philadelphia reported that the car, believed to be a Land Rover or Range Rover, was later retrieved from the river around 9 a.m.

The incident marks the second time in recent weeks that a vehicle has plunged into the Schuylkill River from Kelly Drive. In the previous incident, no occupants were found inside the submerged vehicle.

While the couple's embarrassing mishap has garnered significant attention, it also raises concerns about the safety precautions that should be taken when parking near bodies of water. Police urge drivers to engage their parking brake and ensure their vehicles are in park before leaving them unattended.

The Philadelphia Police Department continues to investigate the incident. No charges have been filed against the couple at this time.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, another vehicle rolled into the Schuylkill River from Strawberry Mansion Bridge, further adding to the week's tally of aquatic automobile accidents in Philadelphia. However, police confirmed that this latter incident involved only a single occupant who was not present in the car at the time it entered the water.

The spate of recent incidents serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to proper safety measures while operating or parking vehicles near water bodies. Drivers should exercise caution and ensure their vehicles are secure to prevent any potential accidents or injuries.
