In the wake of President Biden's withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, Barstool Sports CEO Dave Portnoy has launched a scathing attack on the Democratic Party, accusing them of "hijacking" democracy. Portnoy's remarks come after Biden announced his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris as the new top of the Democratic ticket, a decision that has drawn criticism for bypassing the traditional primary process.
Speaking on "Fox & Friends," Portnoy argued that the Democrats have been hiding Biden's age-related issues and have manipulated the nomination process to their advantage. He slammed the party for not allowing its members to vote for their preferred candidate and for handpicking Harris as the presumptive nominee, despite her poor performance in the 2020 Democratic primaries.

"It's insane!!!!" Portnoy wrote in a post on the X platform. "The left keep calling Trump a threat to Democracy when the Dems didn't let their own party vote for their candidate."
Portnoy singled out liberal celebrities like actor Rob Reiner for their hypocritical rhetoric about saving democracy. He pointed out that Reiner had tweeted that "Democracy will survive" with Harris as the Democratic nominee, despite the lack of a democratic vote in her selection.

"Just admit you hijacked democracy, just admit you don't care if f---ing Mussolini or a head of lettuce is running against Trump, you hate him so much, you're willing to trample on democracy, steal the vote from the American public, the most supposedly important right an American has, the right to vote, you have stolen from the Democratic Party," Portnoy said.
He added that "a group of elite small people are gonna handpick and shove down your throat who you vote for."

Portnoy's criticism extends beyond the specific case of Harris' nomination. He argues that the left's broader rhetoric about democracy is disingenuous, as they seem willing to compromise democratic principles to defeat Trump.
"But this ‘democracy is saved’ and ‘America is saved’… It's the lowest point for democracy in my lifetime," Portnoy said. "It's like we're a third-world country now, the way this thing is being run."
