David Boreanaz's Intense 'SEAL Team' Stunts Take Toll on His Body, Leading to Multiple MRIs

David Boreanaz's dedication to authenticity in his role as Jason Hayes on "SEAL Team" has come with a physical price, resulting in multiple MRIs and the realization that his body can no longer withstand the demanding stunts.

David Boreanaz, the 55-year-old star of the military drama "SEAL Team," has opened up about the toll that the show's intense stunts have taken on his body. After filming season seven, Boreanaz underwent four MRIs in four months for various injuries, including his knees, hips, and shoulders.

The actor, who has played Jason Hayes since 2017, admitted to People magazine that his body "just can't do it anymore." He emphasized that the cast and crew of "SEAL Team" prided themselves on keeping the show authentic, which required Boreanaz to undergo extensive training and film physically demanding scenes.

"There were no shortcuts," Boreanaz said. "We wanted to make sure that we were giving the audience the most realistic portrayal of what these SEALs go through."

One particularly challenging stunt involved Boreanaz carrying a 250-lb stunt double on his back. During the scene, he hit a rock, twisted his ankle, and fell flat down. Despite the intense pain, Boreanaz pushed through and completed the scene.

"You learn from the SEALs how to push through pain — I’m talking guys who have had their arm blown off and are cracking jokes because that’s how they deal with it," Boreanaz explained. "It’s very intense."

The actor acknowledged that he has always taken good care of himself, but the physical demands of "SEAL Team" have proved to be too much for his aging body. "I think I’ve had four MRIs in the past four months," he said. "It’s been quite a journey."

Despite the physical toll, Boreanaz noted that he has received immense gratitude from Navy SEALs for the "real representation" that the show provides. He said that his dedication to the role has always been about being present and focused on the task at hand.

"My work ethic is always head on a swivel, be in the now, don't look back, don't look far down the pipeline," Boreanaz stated.

While Boreanaz will not be returning to "SEAL Team" for future seasons, he hinted that he has future projects lined up. He plans to take a brief break after working non-stop since the 1990s, having previously starred in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," and "Bones."

"Vacations are good until, like, the second day, and then I’m bouncing my knees thinking about what we’re going to do next," Boreanaz said. "My mind is always actively going. Work to me is relaxation, it fulfills me."

As he steps away from "SEAL Team," Boreanaz expressed his intention to spend more time with his children, Jaden and Bella, while also exploring new opportunities in the entertainment industry.
