David Duchovny, known for his iconic roles in "The X-Files" and "Californication," recently shared a deeply personal experience that shaped his life profoundly. In an interview on SiriusXM's "Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa," Duchovny recounted the terrifying incident that almost cost him his daughter, West.

When West was just nine months old, she contracted RSV, a common respiratory virus that can be particularly dangerous for infants. As Duchovny recalled, "I'd never heard of it until my daughter got it, and it's very dangerous for infants." West's condition quickly deteriorated, and she was rushed to the hospital, where doctors struggled to diagnose her.

"They thought maybe she had meningitis. She was non-responsive," Duchovny said. The situation escalated to the point where doctors performed a spinal tap on the young child. "It was horrifying," he added.

Duchovny, who was working on "The X-Files" at the time, vividly remembers visiting his daughter in the hospital after work and grappling with the possibility of losing her. "I started to try to acclimate myself to a world without her," he confessed. "This is a real possibility. I've got to think about it."

The actor realized that even if he survived the loss, his life would be forever changed. "I would never get over it," he said. "Not that I couldn't live, but just that life would... have no meaning or joy."

Fortunately, West recovered from her illness, but the experience left a lasting scar on Duchovny. "I had troubles shortly after that," he said. "I don't know if the word is reattaching, but accepting her back in. I was so terrified."

Duchovny's harrowing experience is a reminder of the fragility of life and the profound impact that near-death encounters can have on parents. His story highlights the importance of cherishing every moment with our loved ones and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
