Deion Sanders Praises Rival Coaches at Big 12 Media Days

Colorado coach Deion Sanders highlighted the kindness and support he has received from fellow Big 12 coaches, including Gus Malzahn, Mike Gundy, Brett Yormark, and Joey McGuire.

Colorado coach Deion Sanders took a moment at the start of his first Big 12 media days appearance to express his gratitude to several of his fellow coaches in the league.

Sanders, who is entering his second season at Colorado, highlighted the support he has received from coaches like Gus Malzahn, Mike Gundy, Brett Yormark, and Joey McGuire.

"I'm just highlighting a couple of the coaches because they've been so kind, they've been so considerate. They've been so wonderful to me," Sanders said. "[Malzahn] recruited Shedeur out of high school. I remember going there to Auburn and he just has been the same consistent man since. He's a phenomenal coach."

Sanders also praised Gundy, who is going into his 20th season at Oklahoma State, and Yormark, the Big 12 Commissioner.

"Mike Gundy, legend. Brett Yormark, legend," Sanders said. "They've been wonderful. They've been so supportive. They've been so helpful."

Sanders reserved special praise for McGuire, who is now the head coach at Texas Tech.

"Joey [McGuire], if you out there, I love you, I appreciate you. You keep on doing what you do," Sanders said. "Except when we come to play you, I want you to keep on doing your thing. But I love you, man, I really do. And you're doing a wonderful work down there at Texas Tech."

Colorado is returning to the Big 12 after spending the past 13 seasons in the Pac-12. Sanders believes that the Buffaloes can compete in the Big 12, which will be a 16-team league with the addition of Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and Utah.

"We're going to be competitive," Sanders said. "We're going to be a force to be reckoned with."

Colorado opens the season Aug. 29 at home against FCS power North Dakota State. The Buffaloes play at Texas Tech on Nov. 9.
