Democrats Concede: Americans Don't Care About Policy

At the Democratic National Convention, Democratic representatives astonishingly admitted that they believe Americans do not vote based on policy issues. Vice President Kamala Harris, they claim, can avoid disclosing her positions because voters "don't vote on policy."

The shocking revelation came during a panel discussion on CNN's "The Lead" about the criticism surrounding Harris's prolonged absence from formal interviews, press conferences, and policy discussions. Anchor Manu Raju shared insights from his conversations with Democratic attendees at the convention.

"They're concerned about her doing that could potentially trip her up and give Trump some ammunition," Raju said. "In fact, a lot of those Democrats I spoke to today said, 'Avoid those policy prescriptions.'"

Democratic representatives echoed this sentiment, dismissing the importance of policy in voter decisions. Georgia Rep. Nikema Williams asserted, "I haven't heard from many voters looking for white papers and policy papers, what they wanted here is what her vision is for this country."

Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly boldly stated, "The American people don't vote on policy prescriptions." Michigan Rep. Dan Kildee echoed, "I actually think the way the American people think about this choice is less about the minutia of policy and more about the direction of the country, number one. And secondly, about the person, the character. It does matter."

Connolly cited the example of Elizabeth Warren's unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign, arguing that presenting detailed policy plans can backfire. "Remember what Elizabeth Warren did when she ran back in 2020. She had a white paper for every policy position the sun, and what happened? She collapsed in the primary," he said.

Raju questioned whether voters truly desire to see a candidate's policy ideas presented on paper, to which fellow anchor Kasie Hunt replied, "Maybe. If you go with the vibes, it's a vibes election." CNN's Erin Burnett concurred, "That's right."

This revelation is particularly striking given that Harris's campaign website still lacks a dedicated section outlining her policies. It offers only brief biographies of the Democratic nominees and information on how to donate and volunteer.

The day before, CNN anchor Erin Burnett questioned the wisdom of Harris avoiding interviews and policy discussions. "She hasn't done a big interview in a while here and certainly not since announcing," Burnett said. "Are you going to talk to her soon? What do you think? What do you think she should do? Or does she do better to ignore all those calls to talk and just keep doing what she's doing?"
