DeSantis Blasts Media for "Whitewashing" Harris' Record

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis accuses the media of downplaying Vice President Kamala Harris' political history, describing their efforts as a "blizzard of lies." DeSantis warns that the upcoming election will be filled with attempts to portray Harris as something she is not.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has expressed his disapproval over the media's portrayal of Vice President Kamala Harris, who has emerged as the presumptive Democratic Party nominee following President Biden's withdrawal from the reelection campaign. DeSantis, in an interview on Fox News' "Sunday Morning Futures," accused the media of engaging in a campaign to "whitewash" Harris' record, downplaying her policies and past actions.

"Down here in Florida, it's hot in July, and it'll be hot in August, but you're going to see a blizzard of lies over the next few months," DeSantis said, referring to the upcoming election. He emphasized, "There's not going to be any pushback from the entrenched corporate media, and they're going to try to re-write history, and they're going to try to present her [Harris] as something that she's just not."

DeSantis also drew connections between Harris and the Biden administration's policies, blaming her for issues such as the border crisis and inflation. He asserted, "She owns the border, she owns the inflation," adding that Harris has failed to accomplish anything significant during her time in office.

The Republican presidential candidate further criticized Harris' stance on environmental issues, including her support for fracking bans, and her handling of immigration matters at the border. DeSantis expressed concerns about her liberalism and lack of accomplishments. He argued, "She's incredibly vapid, even more incredibly liberal, and she doesn't have any accomplishments."

Since Biden's withdrawal from the race, Harris has drawn scrutiny from Republicans for her political views. They have criticized her former support for fracking bans and her handling of border issues, while also slamming the media for allegedly attempting to rebrand her as she prepares to face former President Donald Trump in the upcoming election.

DeSantis pointed out that despite Harris' lack of significant accomplishments, Biden's low approval ratings have made her appear more favorable in comparison. He stated, "Now that he's [Biden's] out, if we had to pick someone, I think we would pick Harris because she owns all the policies, she's not going to be able to distance herself from them, and most Americans think this country's going in the wrong direction."

Recent polls have shown Harris and Trump locked in a tight race in key swing states, including Pennsylvania and Michigan. A separate New York Times/Siena College poll conducted after Biden's withdrawal from the race indicates Harris gaining ground on Trump, with his lead now just one point, at 48% to Harris' 47%.

DeSantis concluded by expressing optimism that truth will prevail, but acknowledged, "Biden set the bar so low… he couldn't even deliver a sentence. Now you take somebody like Harris who's not exactly lighting the world on fire, but Biden makes her look like Socrates just because we're so used to him not even being able to do anything. Now you have somebody who's younger, so we're in for a battle here."
