A Connecticut father has been arrested after allegedly trying to drown his two young children at a beach early Saturday morning. The children were rescued by police officers and rushed to the hospital, where they are currently in the intensive care unit.

In a separate horrific incident, a 42-year-old Queens, New York, resident named Romney Desronvil has been accused of "deliberately" attempting to drown his kids at a Connecticut beach.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, a police officer patrolling the area near Ocean and Dawson Avenues in West Haven heard significant screaming and noticed a sport utility vehicle (SUV) parked on the beach. As the officer approached, he heard screaming coming from the water and noticed an adult male and two small children struggling.
When the patrol officer entered the water, the suspect reportedly moved himself and his children further into Long Island Sound and screamed at the officer, "Stay back!" It was clear to the officer that the male was intentionally trying to drown his children.

Other officers on the scene joined members of the West Shore Fire Department and entered the water using the West Shore Fire boat. The children were eventually rescued and rushed to a local hospital for treatment. As of Saturday morning, both children were in the intensive care unit.
"It is without a doubt the swift response by our patrol officers saved the lives of these children," the West Haven Police Department said in a statement. "The communication and collaborative efforts made by the West Shore Fire Department and eventually the New Haven Police Department allowed for immediate medical aid and also the apprehension of Desronvil."

The West Haven Police Department is currently investigating the incident. Criminal charges against Desronvil are still pending, and the West Haven Police Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
