Tesla CEO Elon Musk has announced that he will attend former President Donald Trump's upcoming rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the site of an assassination attempt against Trump earlier this year.

Former President Donald Trump is set to return to Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, October 5, for a rally at the Butler Farm Show fairgrounds, the site where the first assassination attempt against him unfolded on July 13.

Trump's campaign has emphasized that the rally will serve as a return to the venue where Trump narrowly escaped a life-threatening attack.

"President Donald J. Trump will return to Butler, Pennsylvania, to hold a rally on the very same ground where he came within a quarter of an inch of losing his life less than three months ago," the campaign stated.

During a rally in North Carolina last week, Trump expressed his desire to return to Butler to "finish our speech": "As you know, there have been two assassination attempts on my life that we know of… and the first case in Butler, Pennsylvania, great place, and we're going back to Butler," he said. "We're going to go back and finish our speech."

The campaign also noted that Trump would honor the victims of the assassination attempt, including Corey Comperatore, a firefighter who "historically sacrificed his life to shield his wife and daughters" during the attack.

Trump will also recognize the two other Americans wounded by the shooter, David Dutch and James Copenhaver.

Following the assassination attempt, security measures have been enhanced for Saturday's rally.

"We want to make sure that this event is safe and secure for everyone," said Butler County Sheriff Mike Slupe. "We are working closely with law enforcement agencies at all levels to develop a comprehensive security plan that will protect the president, the rally attendees, and the community."

Specific details of the security measures have not been publicly disclosed for operational security reasons.

Musk's announcement of his presence at the rally comes as authorities continue to investigate the assassination attempt.

Ronald Clyde, 49, was charged with two counts of attempted homicide, three counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment following the shooting.

The investigation into the motive behind the attack is ongoing.
