France and England have secured their spots in the Round of 16 of Euro 2024, but only England emerged victorious in their group while France stumbled and Austria surprised. Elsewhere, Netherlands fell short, and Denmark and Serbia played to a draw.

France, the Euro 2024 favorites, failed to secure the top spot in Group D after drawing 1-1 with Poland on Tuesday. This is the first time France has finished second in their group at a major tournament since Euro 2012.

Kylian Mbappé scored his first goal of Euro 2024, while Robert Lewandowski equalized for Poland. Antoine Griezmann set a new record for most appearances (33) by an outfield player for France at a major tournament.

Austria pulled off a shock victory over Netherlands, winning 3-2 to top Group D. This is the first time Austria has finished top of its group at a major tournament since the 1978 World Cup.

Marcel Sabitzer scored a stunning goal for Austria, while Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay found the net for Netherlands. The Dutch, despite finishing third in the group, will advance to the knockout stage.

Denmark and Serbia played to a goalless draw, with Denmark finishing second in Group C. Serbia was eliminated from the tournament.

Christian Eriksen made his 133rd appearance for Denmark, the most in national team history. Serbia's Dušan Vlahović remains without a goal in his last nine appearances for his country.

England secured first place in Group C with a goalless draw against Slovenia. England has now advanced past the group stage in their last five Euros appearances.

John Stones became the only outfield player to have started all 22 matches for England in major tournaments under Gareth Southgate. Slovenia advanced as the third-place team in Group C despite not winning a single game.
