Authorities are coordinating with the Oakland County Prosecutor's office on formal charges and are actively searching for the second suspect.

On Friday, around noon, the suspects gained entry into the Murray residence on Newcastle Street. Murray, accompanied by the suspects, went down to the basement to check for a purported gas leak, his wife told police. When Murray failed to return, his wife assumed he had been abducted.

Upon arriving at the scene, police found Murray's wife tied up with duct tape. Officers discovered Murray's body in the basement, suffering from gruesome injuries.

Sheriff Bouchard stated that the cause of Murray's death remains undetermined due to the severity of his injuries. "We're not sure the cause, because quite frankly there was so much blood," Bouchard said. "We're not sure if it was any kind of gunshot or blunt force trauma. We're not sure."

Bouchard suggested that Murray's status as a small business owner may have made him a target for assets or cash. "Lots of times when people are small business owners they become a target for assets or cash that sometimes they bring home," Bouchard said. "We’ve seen that in some of the high-end burglaries. So that’s a possibility we’re looking into as well."

DTE Energy has released a statement expressing condolences to the victims while echoing police warnings. The energy company advises customers to request identification badges from workers who call to homes, as DTE employees always carry photo identification.

The police investigation is actively ongoing, with detectives working to gather evidence and locate the second suspect. Authorities are urging the public to provide any information or tips that could assist in apprehending the remaining suspect and bringing justice to the victims and their family.
