Senator John Fetterman, D-Penn., has strongly refuted Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's accusation that he is a bully, labeling it "absurd" and asserting that she misconstrued the context of his remarks.

Fetterman's response stems from a clash on Thursday between Ocasio-Cortez, R-Ga., and himself during a House Oversight Committee hearing. Following the heated exchange, Fetterman quipped that the House of Representatives had become worse than "The Jerry Springer Show."

Ocasio-Cortez took umbrage at Fetterman's comment, posting on social media, "I stand up to bullies, instead of becoming one."

In an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, Fetterman dismissed AOC's allegation, stating, "That's absurd. I was simply responding to the chaos and everything that Rep. Greene started."

Fetterman went on to suggest that Ocasio-Cortez's misunderstanding stemmed from her inability to fully grasp the context of his statement. "If everyone on the committee was proud of what they've produced, they are entitled to their opinion," he said. "But if they feel that this is the kind of video you want to send to a classroom of eighth-grade civics students, that's their choice."

The House Oversight Committee hearing erupted into chaos when Greene made a disparaging remark about the physical appearance of Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett of Texas. Ocasio-Cortez immediately moved to strike Greene's words from the record, leading to further acrimony between the two lawmakers.

Fetterman's characterization of the hearing as resembling "The Jerry Springer Show" was an expression of frustration with the lack of decorum and the unproductive nature of the proceedings.

Despite Ocasio-Cortez's accusation of bullying, Fetterman has maintained that he was not targeting her specifically but rather commenting on the overall atmosphere of the hearing.

The feud between Ocasio-Cortez and Fetterman highlights the growing polarization and lack of civility within the U.S. political system. Both lawmakers have strong support bases and represent different factions within their respective parties, making any attempt at reconciliation seem unlikely.

The House Oversight Committee hearing was intended to hold Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt for refusing to comply with a subpoena, but the proceedings quickly devolved into personal attacks and accusations.

The lack of decorum during the hearing has raised concerns about the ability of Congress to conduct its business effectively and has further eroded public trust in the institution.
