The shooting is the latest in a string of mass shootings in the United States in recent months.

In August, a gunman killed 10 people at a grocery store in Buffalo, New York.

In May, a gunman killed 19 children and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.

In April, a gunman killed six people at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The mass shootings have reignited the debate over gun control in the United States.

President Joe Biden has called for stricter gun control laws, including universal background checks and a ban on assault weapons.

The National Rifle Association, a powerful gun rights lobby, has opposed stricter gun control laws.

The debate over gun control is likely to continue in the wake of the Birmingham mass shooting.
