In the heart-stirring film "Sight," Dr. Ming Wang's extraordinary life journey is brought to the big screen. Having endured the oppressive realities of 1970s communist China, Wang escaped to the United States in pursuit of his dream to become a doctor.

Arriving in 1982 with meager possessions, knowing little English and without any acquaintances in the country, Wang found solace in his newfound freedom. Despite his initial financial struggles, his determination to make a difference burned brightly.

"Young people were forced into labor camps or had to learn a musical instrument to join a government song-and-dance troupe," Wang recalls. Yet, amidst the turmoil, he relentlessly pursued his education, completing three years of high school curriculum in just two months after the Cultural Revolution ended.

Through sheer willpower and unwavering support from his family, Wang secured a place at the University of Maryland, where he earned his PhD in laser physics. He then embarked on his medical training at Harvard and MIT, driven by a deep desire to help the less fortunate.

"I realized the one leading cause of blindness in the third-world countries is corneal eye scarring due to trauma and infection and malnutrition," Wang explains.

Inspired by his Christian faith, Wang sought a scientific approach to solving this pressing issue. He turned his attention to the healing properties of the amniotic membrane surrounding a fetus, which he believed held the key to minimizing scarring.

For nearly two decades, Wang dedicated himself to meticulous research, collaborating with mothers who generously donated their placentas after childbirth. Eventually, he confirmed the membrane's remarkable regenerative abilities and developed the amniotic membrane contact lens.

Driven by his gratitude for America and his desire to alleviate suffering worldwide, Wang selflessly donated his invention to the medical community. He devoted himself to teaching doctors in over 50 countries how to harness its power, spreading the gift of sight far and wide.

"Having found freedom and faith in America, that tells me, I should not only benefit from this wonderful country, the freedom, but I also have the obligation to pay back," Wang affirms.

Today, Wang's Nashville-based practice has performed over 55,000 eye surgeries across 55 countries. His foundation provides free surgeries for blind orphans globally, embodying his unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of those most in need.

"Sight" premieres on May 24, offering a poignant testament to the indomitable human spirit and the transformative power of hope, freedom, and science.
