Michael Brown, the attorney for suspected serial killer Rex Heuermann, has addressed the disturbing search history allegedly discovered on his client's devices. During a recent court hearing, prosecutors presented a chilling document found on Rex Heuermann's computer, alleging it was a "planning document" he used to methodically blueprint and plan out his crimes. The document reportedly outlines sections on things to remember, problems, supplies, prep work, dump sites, and targets.
Heuermann's attorney, Michael Brown, addressed the twisted search history during the hearing. While acknowledging the disturbing content, Brown emphasized that the defense team had yet to review the evidence in full. He stressed the importance of due process and the presumption of innocence, stating that Heuermann "denies any involvement in these crimes."
The discovery of the planning document adds to the growing body of evidence against Heuermann, who is now charged with the murders of six women. Previously, he faced charges in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, known as the "Gilgo Four."
New DNA evidence and the planning document have led to additional charges in the deaths of Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla. Taylor's body was discovered in Manorville, Suffolk County, in 2003, with her head decapitated and her arms severed. Costilla's remains were found in a wooded area of Southampton in 1993.
Heuermann's alleged killing spree may have started years earlier than previously known, as authorities investigate his possible connection to the deaths of Valerie Mack and Shannan Gilbert. Mack's dismembered remains were found near the Gilgo victims, while Gilbert vanished in 2011 after placing a frantic 911 call.
John Ray, attorney for Gilbert's family, expressed concern that Heuermann's notes mentioned Stockholm syndrome, suggesting his victims were held captive. Ray said that evidence links Heuermann to Gilbert and believes she may have suffered a similar fate to the other victims.
The investigation into the Gilgo Beach murders has expanded significantly since 2010, leading to the arrest of Heuermann after a long and complex investigation. Multiple task forces and agencies have been involved in piecing together the puzzle, including state and local investigators.
