GOP Challenger Moreno Attacks Brown for Support of Harris

Ohio Republican Senate candidate Bernie Moreno has released a new ad tying Democratic incumbent Sherrod Brown to Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing Brown of supporting Harris's "radical" policies.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, facing a tough re-election battle, has become the target of a new attack from his GOP opponent, Bernie Moreno, who accuses Brown of supporting Vice President Kamala Harris's "radical" policies.

The ad, released by Moreno's campaign, highlights Brown's endorsement of Harris for president and his voting record with Harris and President Biden in the Senate.

"Sherrod Brown and Kamala Harris, new friends, same old radical agenda," the ad concludes.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Moreno's communications director, Reagan McCarthy, said, "Kamala Harris would be even more radical than Joe Biden, and Sherrod Brown supports her 100%."

The ad comes as Republicans target vulnerable Democratic senators with ads tying them to Harris's policies. On Tuesday, Pennsylvania GOP Senate candidate Dave McCormick released an ad highlighting the praise that Democratic Sen. Bob Casey gave Harris before outlining various of her policies that the ad says make her the "most liberal nominee in U.S. history."

Brown's campaign has defended the senator's record, saying that he has always acted in the best interests of Ohio and that Moreno's attacks are politically motivated.

"Bernie Moreno and his special interest allies are attacking Sherrod because they know he will always do what's right for Ohio while Moreno only looks out for himself," a Brown campaign spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

The race between Moreno and Brown is expected to be close, with Republicans viewing it as one of their strongest opportunities to take back control of the Senate in November in a state that Trump won by 8 points in 2020. The Cook Political report ranks the race as a "toss up."

Brown's endorsement of Harris came after he had called for President Biden to drop out of the presidential race. He has since joined the list of vulnerable Democratic senators who are facing ads from their opponents tying them to Harris's policies.

The Moreno ad is the latest sign of the GOP's strategy to use Harris as a wedge issue in the midterm elections. Republicans believe that Harris is a polarizing figure who will energize their base and help them win back suburban voters who abandoned the party in 2020.

Democrats, meanwhile, are hoping to avoid a repeat of the 2016 election, when Republicans successfully used attacks on Hillary Clinton to motivate their base and win control of the Senate.
