Harris Struggles with Voters of Color in Sun Belt, CNN Data Guru Says

Vice President Kamala Harris is trailing former President Biden's numbers with Hispanic and Black voters in the Sun Belt region, according to CNN data guru Harry Enten.

Vice President Kamala Harris is facing challenges in gaining support from Black and Latino voters in the Sun Belt region of the United States, as compared to former President Joe Biden's performance in the 2020 election, according to CNN data guru Harry Enten.

Enten presented analysis on the "The Lead with Jake Tapper" program, revealing that a recent New York Times/Sienna poll indicates Harris is trailing Biden's numbers with Hispanic and Black voters in the Sun Belt states of Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina. Biden won the first two of these states in the 2020 election.

"Hispanic voters, four years ago, Joe Biden won that vote 66% in the Sun Belt," Enten explained. "Look at where we are now, Kamala Harris at just 52%, so Kamala Harris struggling among Hispanic voters. Donald Trump doing considerably better than he did four years ago."

Regarding Black voters, Enten noted that while Harris is still leading by a significant margin, her numbers are falling short of Biden's in 2020. "How about Black voters?" Enten continued. "Kamala Harris, again, leading here by a significant margin, right? She's getting 83% of that vote, but that is significantly short of Joe Biden's 92%."

"So the bottom line is, in the Sun Belt, which is much more diverse than the northern battleground states up in the Great Lakes, Kamala Harris is struggling among voters of color," Enten concluded.

Enten's analysis also highlighted that among Sun Belt voters, 31% are most concerned about the economy and inflation, while 16% are concerned about immigration and another 16% about abortion. Enten noted that the first two issues are seen as favorable for former President Donald Trump.

When host Jake Tapper asked about the potential outcome if Harris maintains her hold on the less diverse blue wall states in the north while Trump maintains his advantage in the Sun Belt, Enten responded, "Oh my goodness, look how close this race is. 276 electoral votes to Donald Trump's 262 because she carries these Great Lake battleground states, even if she loses in North Carolina, Georgia, and Arizona."

"But the bottom line is this, Mr. Tapper, this race is way too close to call based upon the polling that I currently see," Enten concluded.

The Sun Belt region is a critical battleground in the upcoming presidential election, and the performance of candidates with Hispanic and Black voters is expected to play a significant role in the outcome.
