Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz Leaves Democratic Party, Cites Anti-Semitism

Prominent attorney and Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz has announced his departure from the Democratic Party, citing the presence of anti-Jewish lawmakers and the recent Democratic National Convention, which he deemed "anti-Israel."

Renowned attorney and Harvard Law Professor Emeritus Alan Dershowitz has severed ties with the Democratic Party, expressing deep concerns over the rising anti-Semitism within its ranks and the party's stance towards Israel.

In an interview with radio host Zev Brenner on "Talkline with Zev Brenner," Dershowitz criticized the Democratic National Convention (DNC), which he alleged provided legitimacy to anti-Israel speakers and witnessed anti-Israel protests outside the gathering.

"It was the most anti-Jewish, anti-Israel, anti-Zionist convention I've experienced," he asserted. "I was disgusted at the Democratic National Convention. Absolutely disgusted."

Citing Vice President Kamala Harris's failure to preside over a joint session of Congress during an address by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the presence of anti-Israel protesters calling for the destruction of Israel, Dershowitz stated, "That's not my party."

According to Dershowitz, his departure from the Democratic Party has been a gradual process, influenced by various factors, including the party's handling of the recent Israel-Hamas conflict and its failure to condemn Hamas for its attacks on Israel.

"A lot of things pushed me in that direction," he explained. "Some members of the party have refused to condemn the terror group and have blamed Netanyahu for Israel's military response."

Dershowitz expressed concern over the party's lack of accountability towards terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, accusing many Democrats of neglecting to hold them to the same standard as Israel.

"Many Democrats have called for a ceasefire and urged Israel to use restraint while neglecting to hold Hamas and Hezbollah, an Iran-backed terror group based in Lebanon, in Israel's north, to the same standard," he said.

Dershowitz emphasized that he will be voting independently in the upcoming presidential election, noting that he wants to observe the candidates' stance on Iran and their support for Israel before making a decision.

"I want to see how they deal with Iran. I want to encourage the current administration to support Israel," he added.

Dershowitz's departure from the Democratic Party highlights the growing divide within the party over issues related to Israel and anti-Semitism.
