Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced former movie mogul, has been transferred to Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital for thorough medical evaluations. According to his lawyer, Arthur Aidala, Weinstein underwent an initial examination at Rikers Island jail upon his arrival on Friday. The examination raised concerns about his physical condition, prompting his transfer to Bellevue for further tests.

"They examined him and sent him to Bellevue. It seems like he needs a lot of help, physically. He's got a lot of problems. He's getting all kinds of tests. He's somewhat of a train wreck health wise," Aidala stated.

Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein's prison consultant and authorized DOCS representative, expressed gratitude for the care provided by the New York City Department of Corrections (DOC) and the Correctional Health Services (CHS). "Harvey is in the hands of NYC Department of Corrections and NYC H+H/Correctional Health Services and is having his medical needs tended to by DOCS and CHS," Rothfeld said.

Weinstein's representative, Juda Engelmayer, confirmed his transfer to Bellevue on Saturday morning. "At the same time, we're cautiously optimistic and are prepared to go to trial, if it comes to that," Engelmayer added. "There are fewer charges now and the deck isn't going to be illegally stacked against him."

On Thursday, a 4-3 decision by the New York appeals court overturned Weinstein's 2020 rape conviction, citing the allowance of testimonies from women who accused Weinstein of assaults not directly related to the charges. This ruling has raised the possibility of a retrial.

Weinstein is expected to appear in court on May 1st, according to The Hollywood Reporter. An attorney for Weinstein has yet to respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Weinstein's legal troubles extend beyond the overturned rape conviction. He was extradited to California in 2021 to face sexual assault allegations involving four women, and in 2023 he was found guilty of rape and other sexual misconduct charges in Los Angeles. Additionally, he faces charges in London for alleged offenses in 1996.

The former Hollywood producer has denied any non-consensual sexual encounters and maintains his innocence. However, his hospitalization raises questions about his health and fitness to stand trial in the ongoing legal proceedings.
