Hayden Springer made history on Thursday by becoming the 14th golfer to shoot a sub-60 in a round on the PGA Tour.

Hayden Springer etched his name into PGA Tour history on Thursday when he became the 14th golfer to shoot a sub-60 in a round.

Springer, who turned professional in 2019, fired a sizzling 59 in the opening round of the John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois.

The Tennessee native started his round with a par on the first hole but quickly caught fire, making an eagle on the second hole and four consecutive birdies on holes 3-6. After a par on the seventh, he closed out the front nine with two more birdies.

Springer continued his impressive play on the back nine, recording five straight pars before birdies on the 14th and 16th holes. He capped off his historic round with another eagle on the 18th, finishing with a 12-under-par 59.

Springer's 59 is the second sub-60 round on the PGA Tour in three weeks, following Cameron Young's 59 at the Travelers Championship. It is also the eighth sub-60 round worldwide this year.

The PGA Tour record for the lowest round is a 58, which was set by Jim Furyk at the Travelers Championship in 2016. Furyk is also among the 13 other players who have shot a 59 on the PGA Tour.

Springer's historic round puts him in elite company and is a testament to his exceptional talent and skill. The 25-year-old has competed in 18 PGA Tour events, with his best finish being a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open in March.

The John Deere Classic is a PGA Tour event that has been held annually since 1971. The tournament is played on the TPC Deere Run course, which is a par-71 layout that measures 7,261 yards.

Springer's 59 is the lowest round in the history of the John Deere Classic, breaking the previous record of 61 set by Paul Goydos in 2010.

Springer will look to build on his historic performance in the second round of the John Deere Classic. He will tee off at 1:24 p.m. ET with playing partners Harry Hall and Kevin Chappell.
