Subsequently, a friend reportedly gave him a gun for self-protection.

"Traffic keeps moving – by the time our troopers get there, many minutes have gone by and the traffic has moved on."
Retired SWAT commander Gene Petrino emphasized the complexities of dealing with moving crime scenes, especially given the jurisdictional challenges and limited time available for investigations. "You're not going to have as many witnesses because they're busy driving," he said.
