Hillary Clinton Recalls Seeing Melania Trump's Concern at Rosalynn Carter's Funeral

Hillary Clinton, during an appearance on "The View," shared her observations of Melania Trump at Rosalynn Carter's funeral, noting the former first lady's appearance of being worried about being accepted.

Former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently appeared on "The View," where she reminisced about her encounter with Melania Trump at the funeral of Rosalynn Carter. Clinton expressed her belief that Trump seemed concerned about her acceptance within the attendees.

"I saw Melania at Rosalynn Carter's funeral, and she was sitting with all the former presidents and their wives," Clinton recalled. "And I could just see that she was worried about being accepted."

Clinton further elaborated on Trump's demeanor, noting that she appeared "very quiet" and "reserved." The former first lady also observed that Trump seemed to be "on edge" and "ill at ease," leading her to believe that Trump was feeling uncomfortable.

Clinton's comments come as her Broadway musical, "Suffs," is set to end its run due to financial challenges. The musical, which tells the story of the women's suffrage movement, opened in April but has struggled to attract audiences. According to the New York Times, "Suffs" was capitalized to gross $19 million but has not recouped that amount.

For the week ending October 6, the musical earned just $679,589, an insufficient amount to sustain a Broadway show with a large cast. Data from the week of May 5 shows that the Clinton-produced play only reached 81% capacity across eight performances that week.

"Suffs" debuted two weeks after its official performance, but it struggled to fill its seats from the start. Competing with other Broadway productions such as "Romeo & Juliet," "Sweeney Todd," and "Moulin Rouge! The Musical," "Suffs" placed in the bottom 23% of all 35 shows on Broadway for the week of May 5.

By the end of its Broadway run, "Suffs" will have had 24 previews and 301 performances, slightly lower than the average Broadway musical. The last "Suffs" performance on Broadway will take place on January 5. The musical will then embark on a nationwide tour beginning in Seattle in September 2025.

"Suffs" was also produced by Malala Yousafzai, the Nobel Prize-winning activist for girls' education. In July, a group of radical protesters interrupted a "Suffs" performance, calling the musical "a betrayal of the next generation of feminists."

Despite its relatively short run on Broadway, "Suffs" received positive reviews from critics and won the Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score in June. Clinton introduced a performance at the awards show, referencing her 2016 presidential defeat.

"Now, I have stood on a lot of stages, but this is very special," Clinton said before introducing the performers.

"And I know a little bit about how hard it is to make change," she added, referencing Trump's presidential win. "It’s almost impossible to think about what a challenge [women's suffrage) was, but now it’s an election year, and we need to be reminded about how important it is to vote."
