Three individuals have been apprehended following an investigation into an incident in which a Florida sheriff's deputy was deliberately struck by a suspect's vehicle. The deputy, who suffered serious injuries, has since been released from the hospital.
Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister expressed outrage over the attack on Deputy Kalin Hall, which occurred on the night of the Independence Day holiday as Hall was working overtime to ensure road safety. According to Chronister, the suspect fled the scene after intentionally ramming the deputy's vehicle.
Detectives identified William Todd Lewis Jr., 24, as the driver of the suspect's vehicle, which was abandoned about a mile from the scene. Lewis faces numerous charges, including aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, and reckless driving.

Two other individuals have also been arrested in connection with the incident. Zachary Carnegie, 24, is accused of driving a rental car used by Lewis to escape arrest and possessing illegal drugs. Lewis' girlfriend was charged with accessory after the fact and tampering with physical evidence.
According to deputies, Lewis contacted his girlfriend and informed her of the incident after allegedly running over Hall. The investigation has revealed that Lewis' charges will likely be upgraded to attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. Chronister expects further arrests in the case.

Deputy Hall, an 11-year veteran of HCSO, expressed gratitude for surviving the ordeal and receiving overwhelming support from loved ones. He underwent surgery for his fractured leg and is expected to make a full recovery.
