A hit-and-run incident in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Sherman Oaks has left a 63-year-old woman severely injured, and police are searching for the driver responsible. The victim was struck by a black Hyundai sedan while crossing a marked crosswalk.
Los Angeles, California - On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, Los Angeles police were investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a 63-year-old woman "severely injured" in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the victim was crossing a marked crosswalk on Costello Avenue at around 6:00 p.m. when she was struck by a black Hyundai sedan turning onto Costello Avenue.

"The driver of the black Hyundai failed to stop, identify themselves, and/or render aid to the injured person and fled the scene southbound Costello Avenue and westbound Davana Terrance," the LAPD said in a statement.
Video footage released by investigators shows the victim looking in both directions before entering the crosswalk. The sedan then enters the frame and strikes the woman with such force that one of her shoes is sent flying into the air.

As the car comes to a stop, the victim can be seen hunched over on the ground. The vehicle then drives away, leaving the woman alone in the street.
Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the severely injured victim to a local hospital for medical treatment.

"Witnesses described the suspect vehicle and the driver," said LAPD Sergeant David Kates. "We are actively searching for this vehicle and its driver."
The suspect vehicle is described as having four doors and tinted windows.

The victim, who has not been publicly identified, is reported to be in stable condition but sustaining significant injuries.
"We are urging the public to come forward with any information they may have about this hit-and-run," said LAPD Lieutenant Juan Bravo. "This is a serious incident, and we are determined to find the person responsible."
