Hunter Biden is embroiled in a web of legal challenges that extend beyond the upcoming gun trial scheduled for Monday. The first son faces federal tax charges and allegations of making false statements to Congress, adding to his legal woes.

On Monday, Hunter Biden will appear in U.S. District Court for Delaware for the trial on federal gun charges. Special Counsel David Weiss charged him with making a false statement in the purchase of a firearm, making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a licensed firearm dealer, and one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.

If convicted on all counts, Biden could face up to 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

In California federal court, Weiss has charged Hunter Biden with alleged federal tax crimes. The charges include three felonies and six misdemeanors concerning $1.4 million in owed taxes. Biden is accused of a "four-year scheme" of not paying federal income taxes from January 2017 to October 2020 and filing false tax reports.

A trial on these charges was scheduled for June 20, but Biden's attorneys successfully requested a delay to September 5.

House Republicans have obtained information they claim proves "indisputably" that Hunter Biden lied under oath multiple times during his congressional deposition earlier this year. The House Ways and Means Committee alleged that Biden lied at least three times during the deposition.

Biden's attorney has denied these allegations, calling them "twisting" of Hunter's testimony. However, Committee Chairman Jason Smith has warned that lying during sworn testimony is a felony offense, and the Department of Justice has prosecuted numerous individuals for it in recent years.

House Republicans claim that Hunter Biden mischaracterized his role in his firm, Rosemont Seneca, and actually controlled bank accounts he claimed not to have. They also allege that he helped a foreign national obtain a visa and sent a text message to a Chinese business associate threatening consequences if he did not follow his direction.

Biden has not yet been held accountable for these alleged lies or accused of making false statements to Congress. Congressional Republicans have been investigating Biden's overseas business dealings and whether President Biden personally benefited from those arrangements.
