As canoes arrived to rescue Williams, his wife, and granddaughter, they witnessed a heartbreaking scene nearby. A woman stood alone in her doorway, desperate for assistance. Williams tried to reach her, but the water depth prevented him from crossing.

"My wife and my granddaughter had to be rescued from the back of the house," Williams recalled. "We knew the water was rising fast, but we never expected it to get so high so quickly."

With their home reduced to a pile of debris, the Williams family was left with only a few shoes and clothes. Samaritan's Purse dispatched a team of 50 volunteers to assist with the cleanup and salvage of their property. Their local church provided food and support during their time of need.

"As bad as it was for us, I know there are other people who are even worse off," Williams said. "We had a neighbor who died in her house. So, we're just thankful we are all alive."
