Enriquez was residing at the home where the incident occurred on Needham Road in Porter on April 14 when authorities responded to reports of an injured child. The baby was subsequently hospitalized but succumbed to its injuries on April 24.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) Special Victims Unit is awaiting autopsy results to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the child's death and whether additional charges are warranted. Enriquez is currently detained on a $75,000 bond.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has also placed a detainer on Enriquez due to his immigration status. An ICE spokesperson confirmed that Enriquez is a "previously removed Mexican national" who illegally re-entered the United States after being deported in 2020.

Enriquez had previously been arrested in 2020 for criminal trespass and was transferred into ICE custody after serving his sentence. He was ordered removed from the U.S. to Mexico in September 2020 but illegally re-entered the country at an unknown date.

"We are committed to ensuring justice is served and are determined to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future."

The case has sparked outrage and concern, highlighting the ongoing challenges of illegal immigration and its potential consequences. It also raises questions about the effectiveness of current border security measures and the need for comprehensive immigration reform.
