Iran's Desperation Fuels Threats to American Democracy

According to former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the Biden administration's "weakness and appeasement" has emboldened Iran, leading to Tehran's attempts to sabotage former President Trump's presidential campaign and even potentially assassinate him.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has accused the Biden administration of enabling Iran's regime, which he believes is now "flush with cash and powerful once more" due to the administration's policies. Pompeo's comments come in the wake of an intelligence report revealing Iran's efforts to influence the 2020 presidential election and a separate plot to assassinate former President Trump.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) revealed in a press briefing on Monday that U.S. spy agencies had observed Tehran working to influence the presidential election. An official said that Iranian leaders likely wanted to avoid escalating conflicts with the U.S. The regime is alleged to have used "vast webs of online personas and propaganda mills" to spread disinformation.

Pompeo, who spoke to Fox News Digital on Tuesday, said he was not surprised by Iran's attempts to influence the election. He explained that Iran was "isolated, broke, and weak" when he left office in January 2021, but the Biden administration's policies have reversed that situation.

"It is not surprising that the Iranian regime would want to do everything in its power to prevent a second Trump administration," Pompeo said. "The Biden-Harris administration, on the other hand, has pursued a program of weakness and appeasement, and Iran is flush with cash and powerful once more as a result."

Pompeo also accused the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran of lying when it denied interfering in the U.S. election. He said Tehran "despises" American values and expects to continue interfering in the 2024 presidential election to support Kamala Harris.

In a separate incident, Tehran has also been accused of a plot to kill Trump on July 13 after a gunman shot the former president at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally. The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran has called the claims "unsubstantiated and malicious."

During a joint hearing on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, the FBI's deputy director, Paul Abbate, said that officials are "not ruling anything out" regarding Iran's possible involvement in the assassination attempt.

"We have no information that there are any co-conspirators, foreign or domestic, including Iran, related to this, but we're not — I want to be clear — we have no evidence of that," Abbate explained. "We're not ruling anything out. We're looking into all possibilities and leaving our minds open to that."

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment, but there has been no response.

These allegations of Iranian interference and assassination plots highlight the growing tensions between the U.S. and Iran. The Biden administration's policies toward Tehran have been widely criticized by Republicans and some Democrats, who argue that they have emboldened the Iranian regime and made the U.S. less safe.

The situation is further complicated by the upcoming 2024 presidential election. If Iran is found to have interfered in the election, it could have a significant impact on the outcome. The allegations also raise concerns about the safety of candidates and the integrity of the electoral process.
