Isaiah Washington on 'God's Not Dead: In God We Trust,' Faith in Politics, and the Power of Family

Actor Isaiah Washington opens up about his role in 'God's Not Dead: In God We Trust,' the influence of his family on his career choices, and the importance of Christians standing up for their beliefs in politics.

Isaiah Washington, known for his roles in "Grey's Anatomy" and "The 100," has joined the cast of "God's Not Dead: In God We Trust," the latest installment in the faith-based film franchise. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Washington discussed his character, the film's message, and how his family has shaped his career decisions.

Washington plays Pastor David Hill, a man whose faith is tested when he enters a congressional race against a state senator who is opposed to religion. "The film asks the question, 'Does God still have a place in politics?'" Washington explained.

According to producer Michael Scott, the film aims to challenge Christians to not be afraid to assert their influence in the political arena. "I think there's been a wave over the last several years, where people have been scared to talk about their faith in public," Scott said. "But I think we're starting to see — people becoming more vocal about sharing their faith."

Washington, a father of four, emphasized the importance of considering his family's values when choosing his film roles. "I have a responsibility to my children and my wife to be a role model and to choose projects that reflect my beliefs," he said.

"God's Not Dead: In God We Trust" is a reminder that complacency can weaken our freedoms and faith when we fail to defend them, Scott noted. "If we truly believe in a faithful God who is 'good all the time,' we must be willing to speak out and stand firm in our beliefs, even in the face of great risks and opposition."

The film stars David A. R. White as Reverend David Hill. Isaiah Washington, Dean Cain, Samaire Armstrong, Ray Wise, Scott Baio, and Charlene Tilton round out the supporting cast, with guest appearances by Governor Mike Huckabee, Raymond Arroyo, and the Grammy Award-winning band Newsboys.

Washington's commitment to his family extends beyond his career. He described how his wife and children have played a crucial role in his life. "They're my biggest supporters and my biggest critics," he said. "They keep me grounded and make sure that I stay true to myself."

Washington encouraged Christians to engage in the political process. "We should vote for what we stand for," he advised. "Choose the candidates that best align with your values. It's so important to let your voice be heard."

"God's Not Dead: In God We Trust" opens in theaters on September 12, 2023. It is expected to be well-received by audiences, particularly those who appreciate faith-based films and messages.

In addition to "God's Not Dead: In God We Trust," audiences can expect to see more films coming out from Great American Pure Flix and Pinnacle Peak Pictures, the faith-based production company and studio headed by Scott. "Average Joe," a film based on the true story of Christian high school football coach Joe Kennedy, who was fired for praying on the field, is set to hit theaters in October.

A faith film based on "The Last Supper" is also in the works and is expected to be released next Easter.
