Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance has vehemently criticized Vice President Kamala Harris's selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate in the 2024 presidential election, accusing her of surrendering to the far-left faction within her party.
Vance, a US Senator from Ohio, made his comments during an interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity, expressing his disdain for Walz's ideology and Harris's motivations behind choosing him.

"He's a really far-left candidate. He's a really far-left governor, but the fact that Kamala Harris selected him, I think shows really, really poor judgment and that she doesn't have what it takes to be President of the United States," Vance asserted.
Vance argues that Harris's decision to select Walz, a former high school football coach, over other contenders, such as Jewish Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, indicates her unwavering loyalty to the Democratic Party's progressive wing.

"This decision, selecting Tim Walz, is another sign that she doesn't care what the American people think," Vance said. "She is only in this to obey the far-left radicals within her own party. It's a really shameful moment for Kamala Harris."
Vance further contends that the influence of "antisemites" within the Democratic Party may have played a role in the sidelining of Shapiro, who has faced criticism from some progressive activists over his pro-Israel stance.

"Governor Shapiro is a fantastic leader, and he was almost chosen," a Harris aide told The Forward, dismissing claims that Shapiro was overlooked due to pressure from progressive and anti-Israel groups. "The suggestions are absurd, absolutely ridiculous and offensive."
Vance, however, refutes such claims, asserting that the selection of Walz over Shapiro is a blatant example of anti-Americanism. He argues that a vice presidential candidate should not be chosen based on their "ethnic background."

"It’s profoundly anti–American," he said. "Numerous grassroots activists, numerous leaders within the Democrat Party said you shouldn't choose this guy because he's Jewish. I take them at their word. That's face value. And that is ridiculous for any American political party."
Vance's remarks have sparked a flurry of reactions, with fellow Republicans expressing support for his stance and Democrats defending Harris's choice.
