Johnson Expresses Confidence in GOP Momentum, Dismissing Biden Woes

Representative Mike Johnson predicts Republican victory in November, emphasizing policy over personality and expressing concern about Biden's fitness for office.

Representative Mike Johnson, a Republican from Louisiana, has expressed confidence in his party's momentum ahead of the November presidential election, dismissing concerns about President Joe Biden's candidacy and the potential nomination of Vice President Kamala Harris.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Johnson asserted that "it doesn't matter" whether Democrats choose Biden or Harris as their nominee, as the election will be decided on policy, not personalities. He dismissed Biden as "co-owner of all the policies" that Republicans oppose and argued that Harris is not a viable alternative.

Johnson's comments come amid growing pressure on Biden to drop his re-election bid following his poor performance in the recent presidential debate and concerns about his age and mental acuity. Senior Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, are reportedly urging Biden to reconsider his candidacy.

Johnson declined to comment directly on whether Biden should resign from office but noted the growing skepticism among Democrats. "It's for him to determine," Johnson said. "They're in real turmoil."

Meanwhile, 20 congressional Democrats have publicly called on Biden to step aside, including Representative Adam Schiff, a close Pelosi ally. Vice President Harris is increasingly viewed as Biden's successor, but some Republicans privately worry that a younger candidate could pose a greater challenge to former President Donald Trump.

Johnson, however, believes that Trump is experiencing a surge of support following the assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where one attendee was killed and two were critically injured.

"There is something happening out there in the country right now," Johnson said. "People feel it personally, and they know what President Trump has had to go through. He has a sympathy factor on top of all the energy that was already there."

Johnson predicted a strong Republican showing in November, emphasizing the party's focus on issues that resonate with voters. He dismissed concerns about Biden's age and health, suggesting that Republicans will capitalize on the perceived weakness of the Democratic ticket.
