Kamala Harris: A 'Backup Quarterback' and 'Bigger Risk' for Democrats, Clay Travis Says

OutKick founder Clay Travis weighs in on Kamala Harris potentially earning the Democrat nomination for president after President Biden's withdrawal.

OutKick founder Clay Travis has weighed in on the possibility of Kamala Harris earning the Democrat nomination for president after President Biden's withdrawal, comparing her to a "backup quarterback" who poses a "bigger risk" to the party.

In a recent video posted on OutKick, Travis expressed his concerns about Harris's abilities and electability, arguing that she is not the best choice for the Democrats in 2024.

"Kamala Harris is a backup quarterback," Travis said. "She's not a franchise quarterback. She's not somebody that you want to build your team around. She's somebody that you put in there when your franchise quarterback goes down."

Travis went on to say that Harris is a "bigger risk" for the Democrats than some other potential candidates, such as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg or California Governor Gavin Newsom.

"I think Kamala Harris is a bigger risk for the Democrats than Buttigieg or Newsom," Travis said. "I think she's more likely to lose to Donald Trump or whoever the Republican nominee is."

Travis also criticized Harris's record as vice president, arguing that she has not been effective in her role.

"She's been a disappointment as vice president," Travis said. "She hasn't done anything. She hasn't accomplished anything. She's just been a placeholder."

Travis concluded his video by saying that the Democrats need to find a better candidate than Harris if they want to win the presidency in 2024.

"The Democrats need to find a better candidate than Kamala Harris," Travis said. "They need to find somebody who is more electable, who has a better track record, and who is more likely to beat Donald Trump or whoever the Republican nominee is."

Harris has not yet officially announced her candidacy for president, but she is widely considered to be a frontrunner for the Democrat nomination. She has been actively campaigning and fundraising in recent months, and she has received endorsements from several prominent Democrats, including former President Barack Obama.

If Harris does decide to run for president, she will face a competitive field of candidates, including Buttigieg, Newsom, and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. The Democratic National Convention is scheduled to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 13-16, 2024.

In a subsequent video posted on OutKick, Travis responded to criticism of his comments about Harris, arguing that he was simply stating his opinion.

"I'm not trying to be mean or disrespectful," Travis said. "I'm just calling it like I see it. I think Kamala Harris is a backup quarterback. I think she's a bigger risk for the Democrats than some other potential candidates. That's just my opinion."

Travis went on to say that he believes Harris is a "nice person" and that he "respects her accomplishments", but he does not believe she is the right person to be president.

"I think she's a nice person," Travis said. "I respect her accomplishments. But I don't think she's the right person to be president. I think she's a backup quarterback. I think she's a bigger risk for the Democrats than some other potential candidates. That's just my opinion."
