Kamala Harris Must Be Held Accountable by the Media

Fox News contributor Mary Katharine Ham argues that the mainstream media is being lazy in its coverage of VP Kamala Harris becoming the Democrats' presumptive presidential nominee. Ham says the press seems uninterested in the apparent power-sharing agreement set up between President Biden and VP Harris.

Fox News contributor Mary Katharine Ham joined "Fox & Friends" on Friday to discuss Vice President Kamala Harris avoiding press interviews since emerging as the top Democratic candidate. Ham argued that the mainstream media is being "lazy" in their coverage of Harris, and that they are not pressing her on important issues.

"I think this is a total dereliction of duty by the press," Ham said. "We are not sure in this moment whether the Middle East is on the verge of a large conflagration, where Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is getting plea deals. A lot of things are going on right now, and I'm not really sure who's doing the job."

Ham pointed out that President Biden answered some questions last night, but that he also stood slack-jawed next to Harris while she answered the one she was given. She said that this suggests a power-sharing agreement of some kind, but that the media has no curiosity about it.

"There's not one think piece about how we should be concerned about this," Ham said. "And look, if she wants to be the President of the United States, we should know where she stands on issues. She keeps issuing these statements from her staff that say she's completely reversed her decisions. The press, if they do not press her on these things, are allowing her to cosplay president with all the trappings of that job without the pressures of that job. And that is not fair to the American people, because they should have a full understanding of exactly what they're getting into."

Ham's comments come as Harris has been facing criticism for her lack of transparency and accountability. She has not held a formal press conference in over a year, and she has rarely given interviews to the media. This has led to speculation that Harris is trying to avoid scrutiny, and that she is not prepared for the presidency.

The media has a responsibility to hold politicians accountable, and to inform the public about their views and positions. By failing to press Harris on important issues, the media is doing a disservice to the American people.

In addition to Ham's comments, other critics have also accused Harris of being too secretive and evasive. Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that Harris is trying to "script her way to the presidency."

"I think Kamala herself loses in a historic landslide," McEnany said. "Kamala-plus-media is something entirely different. This is why Kamala, the new basement for her is the teleprompter. She wants a scripted campaign. … That is what she's relying on. Where is the press?"

The media has a duty to inform the public about the views and positions of politicians, and to hold them accountable for their actions. By failing to press Harris on important issues, the media is not fulfilling this duty. The American people deserve to know where Harris stands on the issues, and they deserve to have their questions answered.
